Yale College Youth Co-ordinator at London 2012 Olympics

Students at Yale College will be able to share post-Olympic stories with Youth Worker, Pam Rigby who volunteered as a ?Games Maker? at the recent 2012 London Games.

Pam was fortunate to be chosen as one of the final 70,000, out of the 250,000 people who originally applied to become ?Games Makers (Volunteers)? at the London 2012 Olympics. Attending pre- training sessions in London for the role, Pam finally collected her uniform in July and the memorable adventure began. Joining the events services team, Pam embarked on long yet exhilarating shifts immersed in an incredible environment at Lee Valley Canoe Centre for the Canoe Slalom events.

?The atmosphere was electric,? says Pam who embraced the opportunity to share in UK pride of the globally celebrated sporting event.

Pam thoroughly enjoyed her tasks including checking tickets and ensuring people where seated in the correct seats; directing visitors to onsite facilities; assisting with enquiries; entertaining small children; guiding the press into onsite media facilities, dancing with foreign spectators and bidding everyone farewell at the end of each day. On her final day at Lee Valley, after GB had won a silver and gold medal, Pam was tasked with saying goodbye to around 11,000 spectators as they left.

?There was a lot of dancing, shouting, laughing and jubilation as well as a few hugs,? laughs Pam, who, though exhausted is ready to volunteer for Rio 2016.
